Class of 1981
Kay Mattson (class of 1981), ran cross country and track and played basketball on the 1981 state tournament team. She was also involved in student government and theater. She continued to compete in college at George Fox on a track scholarship, where she obtained a BA in Sociology soon followed by a Masters in Social Work (MSW). Following a 15+ year career as a manager in human services and low-income housing she made a career change and earned her Master’s in Public Health (MPH) in international health and has worked as a international public health and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) consultant for over 11 years; working in over 13 countries from as far away as South Sudan, to Indonesia, Haiti and the South Pacific. For fun she white water kayaks, still runs and is getting ready to live aboard a sail boat and sail off towards the South Pacific. Raised by a low-income single mom, she’s an advocate for North students who experience similar circumstances – and see’s barriers as opportunities.
